Former City striker Cyrille Regis and Life-President Mike McGinnity have been honoured with MBEs in the Queen's birthday honours list.

Frontman Cyrille, part of the Sky Blues 1987 FA Cup winning team, received the award for his services to the voluntary sector and football.

Regis, who turned 50 this year, joined the Sky Blues from local rivals West Bromwich Albion in 1984 before going on to play for Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers. After his retirement in 1996, Regis joined his former club Albion as a coach before becoming an FA licensed players agent. He has also done work for a number of charities including WaterAid, a campaign that saw the former player visit Ethiopia.

Often championed as one of the first black footballing stars in the modern game, Cyrille has been recognised by organisations such as Kick It Out and Show Racism the Red Card for his achievements.

Also on the honours list was former Coventry City Chairman and Life-President Mike McGinnity. McGinnity received an MBE for services to Disadvantaged People in the West Midlands.

Sky Blues Director Joe Elliott congratulated both men on their achievements.

"I am delighted Cyrille has been awarded for the wonderful work he does within the community and for the tremendous work he has done within football, especially here at Coventry City." Elliott commented.

And speaking of the former Coventry City Chairman, Elliott said, "Mike McGinnity is a fantastically generous man who has been responsible for millions of pounds going towards the Albrighton Moat Project, a facility which helps wheelchair users and disabled people to enjoy fishing and pursue other sporting interests. He has also supported many other charities including the NSPCC and Coventry based Baby Lifeline. Both awards are truly justified".
