Plymouth have recorded two excellent results in their last two fixtures to maintain an excellent chance of reaching the Premier League for the first time in the Club's history.

Argyle have had to deal with what is par for the course for many clubs in the modern day and age - a switch of manager mid-season - and the return of Paul Sturrock has had nothing but a positive effect, which comes as no surprise when you consider the influence he had during his first stint in charge at Home Park.

After guiding Argyle from the basement division to what is now called League One in 2002, he was the brains behind their second promotion in the space of two years when he led the Pilgrims to the top of the table in 2003/04 before departing for Southampton in March '04.

Bobby Williamson came in to finish the job that Sturrock had started and after nearly four years away from Plymouth to manage the Saints, Sheffield Wednesday and Swindon, the stock of the former Dundee United boss is certainly rising amongst Argyle fans.

Sturrock acknowledged that returning to the scene of former glories could be something of a poisoned chalice, especially after the excellent work of the popular Ian Holloway during his 18 months in charge at Home Park.

Arriving with the Club situated in fourth place in the league last November, it may have appeared that the only way was down for Argyle but thanks to the fourth meanest defence in the Championship, they have stayed in touch with the promotion battle and currently sit in sixth place in the table.

This is even more impressive when you consider that key players such as top scorer Sylvain Ebanks-Blake and midfield maestro David Norris left the Club for large fees in January.

Sturrock did not panic and signed a number of experienced players such as Jermaine Easter, Steve MacLean and Jim Paterson to plug the gaps and keep the Pilgrims in with a chance of reaching the top flight for the first time ever.

Team News

Plymouth will be without influential playmaker and top goalscorer since Ebanks-Blake's departure to Wolves, Peter Halmosi, who was sent-off for two bookable offences last weekend as well as injuring his knee in the process.

Fellow frontman Rory Fallon is a doubt with an ankle injury while defender Lee Hodges is ruled out with a similar injury.

Current Form

Plymouth come to Coventry this afternoon with the Premier League in their sights and recent form has indicated that they have as good a chance as anybody currently battling for a top six finish.

They held Watford to a 1-1 draw last weekend, despite being reduced to ten men following the dismissal of Peter Halmosi and the week before that, beat Bristol City 2-1 at Ashton Gate to prove they have the beating of the vast majority of teams in this division.

Plymouth have proven that to be the case all season long, with West Brom the only side currently residing in the top six who they have failed to points from.

Their last two results came after a small sticky patch when they lost back-to-back games against strugglers Sheffield United and Scunthorpe but in their last ten games, Plymouth have won six, lost three and drawn one, taking 19 points from a possible 30 to stay in touch with the play-off places.

The bad news for Coventry is that Plymouth are one of the division's best travellers, despite facing long, arduous trips almost every time they travel to an away game.

They have won eight away from home - the second highest in the Championship behind Watford. In their last six away matches, Plymouth have won three, lost twice and drawn once.

Last Time we Met

Ian Holloway's well drilled Plymouth outfit last visited the Ricoh in September 2006 and came away with a 1-0 victory.

Cherno Samba inflicted the first home defeat of the campaign on Micky Adams' men, who were never really at the races and could have lost by a bigger margin.

Akos Buzsaky was pulling the strings for Argyle but thanks to the form of Andy Marshall in goal and some poor finishing from the visitors the game appeared to be heading towards a stalemate.

However, eight minutes from time, substitute Samba deservedly earned the points for Plymouth with a firm header.
