Udinese's Serie A class shone through at the Ricoh Arena as City were beaten in their final pre-season friendly before the Championship resumes next week.
Goals in each half from Gaetano D'Agostino and Asamoah Gyan handed the stylish visitors victory over Iain Dowie's men, who battled hard throughout and could have equalised when Michael Doyle's second-half shot was cleared off the line.
The Sky Blues could have broken the deadlock with the game just four minutes old when Kevin Kyle headed a Chris Birchall free-kick narrowly wide.
But it was at the other end where most of the attacking play was bearing fruit as striker Gyan sent a speculative long-range volley dipping just over the crossbar before Victory Budyanskiy forced Andy Marshall into a good save with his legs on the quarter hour mark.
But the opening goal arrived three minutes later when D'Agostino's stunning left-footed free-kick from 25-yards found the corner of the net.
City pressed for a swift reply as Leon Best skewed a shot wide but they could have fallen further behind six minutes before the interval when the dangerous Gyan dispossessed skipper Michael Doyle only for Marshall to save well at the striker's feet.
Best again went close shortly after the break, forcing Udinese substitute goalkeeper Antonio Chimenti to parry before Doyle saw his shot from the rebound blocked on the line.
Michele Paolucci then headed wide for the visitors while Doyle's fierce volley from 12-yards was brilliantly blocked by Felipe after good work from City substitute Dele Adebola.
But Gyan put the game to bed with ten minutes remaining when his electric pace allowed him to hook a loose ball over the advancing Marshall before smashing the ball home into an empty net.
