The Sky Blues ended the season with a 2-1 victory against Burnley at Turf Moor.
After a tentative first half, City took the lead five minutes before the break through Michael Mifsud.
Jay Tabb doubled Coventry's lead on 55 minutes and substitute Paul McVeigh pulled a goal back for the Clarets to set up a tense finish but City held out for a deserved victory.
Iain Dowie made three changes to the side which lost 1-0 against West Brom last weekend.
Colin Hawkins recovered from an achilles injury and returned to the side at centre-back in place of the suspended Ben Turner, while Kevin Kyle came in for Dele Adebola up front - the latter having an operation on his groin on Thursday.
Tabb came into the side for Stephen Hughes, who had been suffering from illness this week but made the bench.
The Sky Blues had a very young list of substitutes, with Liam Davis, Andy Gooding and Lee Hildreth all on the bench.
The opening 10 minutes was a lacklustre affair with neither side creating any clear cut chances. The next 15 minutes followed in similar fashion before Michael Mifsud carved out City's first opportunity of the afternoon with a fiercely struck volley which was smartly blocked by Wayne Thomas.
The deadlock was broken five minutes before half-time when Mifsud fired past Brian Jensen. From a Burnley corner, the Sky Blues piled forward and Michael Doyle found Mifsud lurking just inside the area and the Maltese international picked his spot at the near post to put City in front.
Ade Akinbiyi nearly drew Burnley level moments before the break when the former Stoke City striker hit a shot from 25 yards out which went inches wide of Andy Marshall's goal.
Steve Cotterill rang the changes for the Clarets at half-time with Steve Jones and McVeigh replacing Alan Mahon and Akinbiyi.
Mifsud was giving the Burnley defence a torrid time and three minutes after the restart, the striker tested Jensen with a shot from 18 yards. Moments later Mifsud went close from six yards but could only guide his shot wide of the post.
The match was starting to liven up after a poor first half and with 53 minutes on the clock, Elliott hit a shot from distance which sailed over Marshall's bar.
City doubled their advantage on 55 minutes through Tabb. The former Brentford man raced on to a through ball from Kevin Thornton and finished with aplomb from the edge of the area to score his third goal of the season.
The Turf Moor outfit pulled a goal back seven minutes later when substitute McVeigh dispossessed the ball off Isaac Osbourne and ran into the area and coolly buried the ball past Marshall.
With just over 20 minutes remaining Davis replaced Thornton. Marcus Hall went close with a header from a Doyle corner before Kyle unleashed a shot from distance which went inches wide of Jensen's post.
Mifsud could have wrapped up the game for City when he raced past the Burnley back-line to find himself clean through on goal but the pacey striker lost his composure and scuffed his shot.
Shortly after Kyle tested Jensen with a glancing header from a Doyle free-kick, the Scottish international escaped his marker and the Burnley keeper did well to parry the header round the post for a corner.
With less than 10 minutes on the clock, Cotterill's side threw everything forward including the goalkeeper and Thomas should have done better when he headed over from three yards out.
The Sky Blues weathered the storm and clung on for their first victory away from home since November.
