City record their fourth consecutive win in the league at the Ricoh Arena with a 2-1 victory over struggling Sheffield Wednesday.
Stern John and Gary McSheffrey put City two clear before Chris Brunt pulled one back for the visitors but the Sky Blues held out for all three points.
Micky Adams made three changes to the side that slipped to defeat against Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday, with Andy Morrell, Stern John and Matt Heath coming in to the starting line-up.
The reshuffle meant that Michael Doyle and Dennis Wise were running the City engine room while John - who missed the Watford clash through suspension - returned to the forward line, aiming to continue his recent good form.
In defence, Heath was being used at right-back while Andrew Whing switched to the left hand side of the rearguard.
The opening stages were pretty uninspiring but the game suddenly burst into life in the 15th minute when Dele Adebola was brought down crudely from behind inside the penalty area, only for the referee, Rob Styles, to deem Drissa Diallo's challenge as fair.
The entire home support, along with Micky Adams and his coaching staff, were protesting the decision when Dennis Wise unleashed a ferocious 30-yard drive that keeper Chris Adamson did well to tip onto the crossbar.
For a short while the Sky Blues had Wednesday pinned into their penalty area and it took some stout defending - this time unquestionably legitimate - from Diallo to deny Adebola with a great block tackle in the six-yard box.
The Owls were backed by a huge away following but they could only watch as Lee Bullen wasted their best opportunity in the 26th minute as he failed to connect properly from just 10 yards and his effort went wide.
City continued to create chances and John stole a yard on his marker but fired straight at Adamson, although he later produced a cracking effort from outside the box that just went wide.
With ten minutes to go in the first half, Wednesday were forced into a switch when Diallo pulled his hamstring and was replaced by Chris Brunt who scored twice against the Sky Blues when the sides met at Hillsborough in October.
The impressive Adebola forced Adamson into another smart save just before the interval but in stoppage time City had the goal they and Stern John deserved. Michael Doyle played a free-kick out to Wise who provided a great deep cross for the Trinidad and Tobago international to tuck past Adamson.
After suffering a blow at such a key stage of the game, Wednesday came out of the blocks quickly in the second half and Marton Fulop produced a good save with his legs from Brunt to maintain City's advantage.
Steve MacLean then saw two shots blocked by Ady Williams as the Sky Blues defended resolutely. On loan striker Leon Best was brought on just before the hour mark as Owls boss Paul Sturrock looked to add some pep to his attack.
Twenty minutes from time, Adebola teed Doyle up for a half chance but the Irishman could not keep his shot down and with such a narrow lead, City were in danger of being pegged back by their opponents.
Sturrock's last throw of the dice was to bring on Richie Partridge who of course spent the majority of the 2002/2003 season on loan with the Sky Blues, scoring several wonder goals along the way.
But moments later, City had doubled their lead when Dennis Wise cleverly took a free kick quickly, and with the Owls defence disorganized, McSheffrey slotted the ball past Adamson.
With eleven minutes left on the clock, Wednesday gave themselves a lifeline as Robert Page conceded a free kick 20 yards from goal and Brunt smashed a shot past Fulop to make it 2-1.
Don Hutchison replaced the impressive Stern John with five to go as Micky Adams looked to shore things up and the Owls never really looked like ending City's four-month unbeaten run at the Ricoh.
