Coventry City failed to capitalise on their recent impressive form as they lost 4-0 to Watford at Vicarage Road this afternoon.

Ashley Young opened the scoring in the first half with King, Henderson and DeMerit sealing the win after the interval.

Micky Adams made two changes to the side which lost 1-0 against Middlesbrough at the Riverside on Wednesday.

Dennis Wise came into the side in place of Stern John, with Don Hutchison moving in to play behind Dele Adebola to accommodate Wise in midfield.

James Scowcroft was missing because of a groin injury, with Richard Shaw coming into a back three, alongside Page and Williams.

Ashley Young produced the first shot of the game on four minutes for the home side but the chance went well over Fulop's goal.

Coventry were experiencing neat spells of possession and were getting themselves into some good positions in front of the Watford goal, only to be thwarted by the offside flag and some solid defending.

The Sky Blues were beginning to stamp their authority on the game and after 16 minutes a neat move from Wise saw McSheffrey through on goal only for the ball to be parried away by the keeper from the striker's shot.

On twenty minutes, King came closest for Watford when he lifted his shot over the crossbar before his strike partner Henderson became the first player to go into the referee's book four minutes later. Hutchison's name was soon added to the book for dissent on 26 minutes.

Watford broke the deadlock on 32 minutes when Young flicked the ball past the goalkeeper with the outside of his boot from Spring's cross from the corner flag. The goal certainly gave the Hornets confidence and five minutes later Spring tried his luck from range but only to see it fly over the crossbar.

The Hornets made the first change of the afternoon with Bouazza replacing McNamee at the break. The Sky Blues made a bright start to the second period with Whing supplying a dangerous cross with a Watford defender clearing it for a corner.

On 50 minutes Whing received treatment after a nasty collision with King's boot following an attack by the home side. Watford created the next opportunity with King coming close for the Hornets from a Bouazza cross, before Page cleared the ball to safety as Boothroyd's men sought to double their lead.

Soon after Micky Adams made his first change of the afternoon with Morrell replacing Hutchison, Marlon King doubled the Hornets' lead with a fine header from a Young corner.

Boothroyd was forced into making his second change of the afternoon with Chambers replacing an injured Mahon. On 62 minutes the Sky Blues made a double substitution with Thornton and Jorgensen replacing Wise and Shaw. The changes meant that City reverted to a back four.

In the 69th Page made his way into the referee's notebook which earns him his fifth booking of the season meaning a one match suspension which will mean he will miss next Saturday's game against Plymouth Argyle.

Thornton came the closest to a Sky Blues come back when he found himself one on one with the Watford keeper but the action soon switched to the other end. Once again Young was the provider as his free kick was drifted into the penalty area, with the delivery headed powerfully home by Henderson.

Watford were running riot and in the 81st minute they made it 4-0 when Bouazza's shot was parried by Fulop only as far as DeMerit who made no mistake to find the back of the net.
