An organised defensive display earned City a welcome point against Cardiff at Ninian Park.
Micky Adams named a surprising starting line-up for the game against Cardiff as leading scorer Dele Adebola dropped to the bench for Gary McSheffrey who returned after serving a one-match suspension in midweek. Kevin Thornton was awarded his first senior start for the Sky Blues, joining the midfield in place of the suspended Michael Doyle, while Richard Shaw was recalled in defence.
The change in personnel also meant a change to the Coventry formation with Marcus Hall and Richard Duffy playing the wing back roles in a 3-5-2 system.
It was the Bluebirds who got an early sight of goal when Joe Ledley played a ball over the top for pacy striker Cameron Jerome to run onto in the first minute but he lofted his effort over the advancing Marton Fulop well over the bar.
But apart from that there were few opportunities for either side in a scrappy opening half an hour although credit to Robert Page for a superb last ditch challenge on Jason Koumas when the former West Brom man went through on goal.
Cardiff were largely being restricted to shots from distance and Fulop gathered long range efforts from Jerome, Koumas and Jeff Whitley with ease as the Sky Blues did a good job of containing the home side in the first half.
City's first shot on goal did not come until the 35th minute when Scowcroft fired over from 25 yards with Cardiff keeper Neil Alexander off his line. Coventry were now looking more creative but McSheffrey only found the side netting with a far post header from Nalis' dangerous cross.
Cardiff emerged fired up after half time and City were nearly caught out in the 51st minute of the match when Jerome rounded Fulop but thankfully Page was back to block his cross, after which Coventry's Austrian shot stopper made a fine full stretch save from Alan Lee.
Adams made his first substitution just before the hour when Jorgensen replaced Thornton but Cardiff continued to look the more threatening of the two teams and with 20 minutes on the clock Dele Adebola was introduced to liven up Coventry's attacking play, replacing the quiet McSheffrey.
The switch did little to change the flow of the match, with Cardiff continuing to press but Coventry keeping them at bay with plenty of organised defensive work.
In fact, Coventry did not register a shot on target all game but if the job was to come to Cardiff and avoid defeat, it was mission accomplished for Micky and the boys.
